Spending time the other night at Elmer's, our favorite local watering hole, and I noticed an annoying new trend. Young parents with young children were coming in to eat at the restaurant and many of the young boys had mohawk hair styles. This wasn't your punk-rock mohawk that stood stiff and tall like a finger flipping off society. This was a lazy parent, unimaginative mohawk achieved by throwing a little mousse or gel in the kid's hair to create a vertical ridge. The rest of the head had hair, so it looked less of a mohawk and more like extreme bed-head. It gave the child an edgy look. Not cool edgy like Lewis Black. But pathetic edgy, like Britney Spears.Having frequented many area barber shops, Super Cuts, etc., I know that inexpensive and attractive haircuts can be had in the Oswego-Montgomery area. All for the price of two or three packs of cigarettes. Or a case of beer. Isn't your child worth at least that?
And what kind of self-image are the parents perpetuating here? Hoodlum-in-training? Mini miscreant? Junior juvenile delinquent?
The white trash nation is molding a new generation. So move over, mullet. Your young-un can now have the mobile park mohawk.
